Change in Common After decades of living separate existences, Shirley Ende-Saxe and I, were surprised to encounter each other at the opening of a juried art exhibition in Akron in 2008. We first became acquainted as fellow art students at Stow High School. In 2008 Shirley was a familiar name in the area art scene and I was a newcomer having just moved back to Ohio after living and working as an artist in Georgia. As we renewed our acquaintance we discovered that our life paths held several common factors. In addition to being Stow High grads, we'd both graduated from Kent State University and become art teachers. Shirley taught in Northern Ohio and I taught in the Atlanta Georgia area. We both went on to earn graduate degrees and work as graduate assistants for their respective universities. We also discovered that we had something else in common … “change”. Both of us had experienced significant change in the work we produced … change in mediums, change in subject matter and change in the thought and intention behind our work. The pieces in this show illustrate that change. Our "Change in Commom" Two Woman Show, is at the BOX GAllery, in the Summit Artspace Building,140 E. Market St., Akron, OH (3rd floor). The show runs through Dec. 31st.
The Box Gallery is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 12:00 - 5:00 and during First Saturday Artwalks and special Summit Artspaceevents.
