Art has been my passion since I was a child and my head is full of images waiting to be expressed in painting and sculpture.
I was first artistically inspired by my mother who loved drawing, painting, dressmaking and needlework. I stayed by her side enthusiastically absorbing each demonstrated technique. Learning to appreciate and create both two-dimensionally and three-dimensionally early in life is perhaps why I equally enjoy producing both paintings and sculpture today.
I consider myself a contemporary painter and sculptor. My mediums of choice are acrylic for painting and metal for sculpture though I also enjoy and feel comfortable with many other mediums. I work differently these days than in the past when I was inspired to produce an outdoor scene, a still life or portrait through directly observing my subject. I still enjoy this type of work but most of my images now come from within… from subconscious imagery that unfolds through meditative sketching.
I have always been an “observer” and “questioner” seeking an understanding of human beings … observing them as individuals and their behavior in groups. Eventually, that interest grew to include the observation and questioning on a national and global level. My current abstract/conceptual work is related to these observations and inquiries. I also have a passion for depicting the meditative properties of flowers. Their color, shape, movement, and order provide a jumping off place for my imagination and perhaps provide a happy balance to my “heavier” subject matter.
