The Artists of Rubber City Annual Juried Show is a well respected show in these parts and it's always an honor to receive that "juried in" notification. I entered one piece this year ... the sculpture pictured below. The Show opens on April 27 and runs through June 3, 2012. The opening reception is Friday, April 27, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the BOX Gallery, 140 E. Market St. (third floor).  "Flirtation", painted steel, 38" x 22" x 10.5"  "Carry Attitudes", acrylic 24" x 18" Thirty some artists were invited to participate in this show with their interpretations of natural beauty. My, Greek - flavored piece, is a departure from my current subject matter. The show opens this Saturday, April 14th with a reception from 7:00 - 9:00 at the We Gallery, located at 20 N. High St., in downtown Akron, OH. My contribution to the "Appreciating the Spiral" show at Studio 2091 Mothersbaugh Roos Gallery. The opening is this Friday, April 13, 5:00 - 7:00  "Abiogenesis", acrylic 48" x 36" Location: 2091 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH  Sculpture in the Round Workshop held at summit Artspace in conjunction with the "Fresh and Springy" Show in the main Gallery at Summit Artspace. What a fun group of folks! Non-sculptors taking a stab at 3-dimensional design with open minds and willing spirits. I loved the results! 
 I was just informed that my two paintings (below) will be part of the initial "Art at the Airport" exhibition at the Akron Canton Airport from April through July, 2012. This new exhibition program will feature six local artists, (three from Summit County and three from Stark County) every 4 months. I'm very pleased to be part of the exhibit.
Spring in Ohio is always magical. Despite the higher than normal winter temps this year, it is no less exciting to watch the gradual "greening up" of the local landscape and to feel the sun's warmth on your skin. Fresh and Springy ...  I am honored to have my painting, Supporters (acrylic 24" x 60") juried into the current "Fresh" show at Summit Artspace Gallery. The show's title this year is "Fresh and Springy". This annual competition showcases innovative work that has been created within the past year. It is always a treat to see what fellow artists come up with. "Fresh and Springy" runs through April 14, 2012. Summit Artspace Gallery hours are Thurs. - Sun. 12 - 5:00. Location 140 E. Market St., Akron, OH For the past several years I have been painting images that either appear in dreams or are the result of a meditative sketching process. Most always these images are abstract in nature and represent a societal or interpersonal phenomenon. Every so often, however, an image appears on my sketching page that results in a painting like the one I'm currently working on.  "Box of Chocolates" painting in progress Could this be because I'm about to begin the third phase of the 17-Day Diet? ... am I being influenced by the current barage of Valentines Day promotions, or am I contemplating Forest Gump's mother's philosophy? Whatever the subliminal influence ... I'm enjoying this sweet departure and as I work I can almost taste each individual piece. | Author
